A little more about Cyprus

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and it attracts over 2.4 million tourists each year.

Mythical birthplace to the goddess of love, Aphrodite and god of beauty Adonis, Cyprus boasts a rich history and is truly an island of great contrasts. With its stunning mountain ranges - the Pentadactylos in the north and the Troodos in central and south-western part of the island - divided by the fertile plain of Messaoria, you have amazing summer walking and winter skiing.

As a crossing point between Europe, Asia and Africa, Cyprus bears traces of successive civilisations – from Roman theatres and villas, Byzantine churches and monasteries to Crusader castles.

Traditional crafts in Cyprus include embroidery, pottery and copperwork. Local eating is good, with dishes such as meze – appetisers served as a main dish – and halloumi cheese, local cakes and pastries. The local tipple to try is zivania schnapps.

Here comes the sun… and snow!

With sunny days and fine temperatures virtually every day, Cyprus boasts great weather and extremes of temperatures are rare, so you can still swim in the sea as late as November!

Summer, mid-May to mid-October, means high temperatures, blue skies and cooling sea breezes from the sea. At high summer temperatures can average 32C (90F) at the beach and it’s warmer inland.

September and October are usually still sunny although towards the end of October the evenings get cooler.

December and January make up the Mediterranean winter, although there is still an average of six hours of sunshine a day.

Cyprus is a year round tourist destination and a major business hub, with a very active cultural calendar. For instance Ayia Napa, a well-known summer resort becomes a cultural hot spot in winter with classical music concerts and contemporary and folkloric dance.

Winter snow in the Troodos mountains is perfect for skiing, and with the coming of spring, Cyprus becomes lush and green once more, with pleasant daytime temperatures and beautiful wildflowers.
